Have any of you guys heard of Golconda Job Corp?
Is it a bad idea to go there?

Golconda is a center located in Illinois that is run by the U S Forestry Service. It offers construction, clerical and culinary trades. I haven’t come across any negative info but you can search the internet to see if you can find anything. I would recommend it over a contract center.
Remember that conservation corps like this one tend to be remote, so don’t think you will be going into town all the time. They’re web site says they have been in operation since 1954 which pre-dates the Job Corps system itself.
Larry King, who is a friend on this page works for the US Forest Service within the Job Corps system. Contact him on his FB page and ask him about the center, I’m sure he can help you.

Brandon,
Job Corps will be what you decide to make of it. If you’re serious, set goals and do your work, you’ll be fine. But if you’re there to party around, then you will leave with nothing or next to nothing. Don’t waste this opportunity.
There is a lot of negativity in Job Corps, but you don’t have to get caught up in it if you don’t want to. Stay positive and let people know you’re there for as much education as you can absorb and a good job or higher education placement, and you’ll be fine. Stay away from trouble.

Just found this site, wow. Worked at a Center in the south for 2 years. There is not much that I have seen so far here that I didn’t experience there. It is a much needed site. Thanks and I will visit again

Peter, I’m so glad you stopped by. I encourage you to let people from your former center know about this site. Collectively, we are trying to make Job Corps more accountable to the taxpayers and the young people it serves. None of us can do this alone… we need each other… all our voices need to be heard! Please come back as this website is updated daily with new Job Corps news.
