Iroquois Job Corps used New Summit School for several years. They are now using Penn Foster which is another online high school diploma service.

I thought New Summit was owned by Res Care. And I thought Alutiiq was a subsidiary of Res Care, but I can no longer find my source for this information. Jobcorps Snitch, was is your reference?

What are you all doing to help the disadvantaged yut of this country? Job Corps is a righteous program that has helped thousands of people who may have never had access to help from those who care. It is easy to disparage others and do nothing to make a situation better. Shame on you!

Geraldine- we are not disputing that Job Corps is a good program. The problem lies with the contractors that run the centers. Most of us including myself have experienced all of the waste and corruption first hand working at the centers. They are just in the business of making a profit for themselves and the students end up being the losers. They are given substandard diplomas most of which are useless in the real world. Sure there have been success stories but there could be many more if the program was run correctly.

Geraldine, what are you babbling about? If you don’t know any of these people who are friends of this site and haven’t worked at a center, then you have no idea what you are talking about. I know these people, have worked in Job Corps for many years and know what I am talking about. Don’t insult us with your ignorance. I am willing to bet my life that I and these people have done a lot more than you to help these students – if you only knew – you wouldn’t flaunt your ignorance.

And Job Corps is not a “righteous” program – not at all. It’s a business for contractors who see an easy way to make money on government contracts. Take your “righteous” indignation to some other Job Corps site where people are on the same infantile “shame, shame” level as you.

The sad thing is that most of the students go into Job Corps to better themselves, It is a sin that they are being duped and cheated.

Westover has a long history of police intervention in riot behavior. Imagine seeing about 250 students, half the student population, running across the quad after a security van with flat tires that was circling the campus. The students had flattened the tires to that vehicle and others in an effort to catch a student who was being removed from the center by security because students thought he had raped another male student. The place was totally out of control. This happened after school hours, so there were very few staff there at the time and the police had to be called in.

Westover Job Corps has for years ranked near the bottom of the pile of 122 job corps when it comes to performance. Their student statistics are very low compared to other centers. Maybe they haven’t learned how to manipulate the numbers as well as the Center Director at Iroquois JC. They actually might be reporting their statistics honestly. They are an urban center with ongoing gang problems. Westover, like many other centers, uses an on-line high school program to give students a high school diploma from Mississippi because their students can’t pass the GED test. It appears that MTC, ETR and Adams centers use this on-line high school to grant degrees. It is called New Summit and is not accredited in New York or Mass.

I wonder what the other contractors like Res-Care, Career Systems, Del-Jen, Minact, Horizon, Chugach, Desi, use to award their students “High School” diplomas.
